What is the OCC?

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is a bureau of the United States Department of the Treasury. The OCC charters, regulates, and supervises more than 1,600 national banks and about 50 federal branches of foreign banks in the U.S. (as of September 30, 2008) and their operating subsidiaries to ensure a safe, sound and competitive national banking system that supports the citizens, communities and economy of the United States. The OCC also supervises federally licensed branches and agencies of foreign banks. The national banks fund the OCC through assessments paid by the banks based on their assets and fees they pay for special services.
What Is a National Bank?

A national bank is a financial institution chartered by the OCC . National banks can usually be identified because they have the words "national" or "national association" in their titles or the letters N.A. or NT&SA following their titles. National banks represent about 23 percent of all insured commercial banks in the United States, holding 68 percent of the total assets of the banking system.
What Is an Operating Subsidiary (Consumer-Focused) of a National Bank?

National banks conduct some of their banking activities through companies called operating subsidiaries. These subsidiaries are companies that are owned or controlled by a national bank and that, among other things, offer banking products and services to consumers such as loans, mortgages and leases. The OCC supervises and regulates many of these operating subsidiaries and has created a database of the operating subsidiaries that do business directly with consumers. The information provided in the database is self-reported by the national banks annually as of December 31 pursuant to 12 CFR 5.34(e) (6).

The OCC Customer Assistance Group was created to answer questions, offer guidance, and assist consumers in resolving complaints about national banks and their subsidiaries.
The first step is to try to resolve a complaint directly with your bank or its operating subsidiary before involving an outside agency. If you are unable to do so or are uncertain about whether your complaint involves an organization that the OCC supervises and regulates, the OCC Customer Assistance Group will try to assist you.
General inquiries about banking laws or practices often can be answered on the phone or through email by a Customer Assistance Specialist. The specialist may also be able to suggest other ways for you to try to resolve your problem directly with the bank or its subsidiary.
The OCC's Complaint Process
Top
When we receive your call about a complaint, a Customer Assistance Specialist will request certain information from you about the issues. The specialist will evaluate your information and attempt to resolve your questions while on the phone. Should the specialist not be able to resolve your complaint immediately, they may request that you submit a formal written complaint or inquiry. The specialist will explain the formal complaint process to you, assign you a case number and explain exactly what information or documents we need you to provide.
When we receive your written complaint or additional documentation that was requested by one of our Customer Assistance Specialists, we will send to you an acknowledgment letter and assign a case number if one was not previously provided. The specialist will research your complaint and contact the bank for a response. The OCC will notify you after the bank or subsidiary responds. The bank or its subsidiary often resolves voluntarily those complaints caused by bank errors or misunderstandings.
Filing a Formal Complaint

There are two ways you can file a formal written complaint with the OCC about a national bank or its operating subsidiary. No special form is required but you may use the Customer Complaint Form provided if you would like. The OCC will accept either the PDF version the form, or a letter containing the information listed below.

The OCC complaint form (PDF) [En Español (PDF)] is available for Adobe Acrobat version 5.0 and above. You can complete the form on your computer or print it out and complete the form off-line. Either way, sign and date the completed form and mail or fax it to the address below. Adobe® Acrobat® ReaderTM software is required to view and print this form. If Adobe Acrobat is not already installed on your computer, you may download a free copy by visiting Adobe's website.Note: Adobe Acrobat will allow you to complete the form on your computer. You still need to sign and mail the printed form to the Customer Assistance Group in order for us to assist you.

If you would prefer not to fill out a form, you may mail or fax us a letter. No special form is required, but your letter should identify the national bank or subsidiary about which you have the complaint by providing the bank's (or subsidiary's) full name and address.Additionally, the following information is required:

Your complete name and mailing address as used by the bank;

Your daytime telephone number;

Your account number(s);

A detailed explanation of the complaint or inquiry and description of how you would like the matter resolved;

The signature of the account holder, legal guardian, Power of Attorney, or other person authorized to act for the account holder. If you are not the account holder, you must include documentation indicating your authority; and

Documentation supporting your position.

When You Need Other Help
Top
Many complaints stem from factual or contract disputes between the bank and the customer. Only a court of law can resolve those disputes and award damages. If your case involves such a dispute, we will suggest that you consult an attorney for assistance.
The OCC regulates only national banks and their operating subsidiaries, not all types of financial institutions. If your complaint involves a bank or other institution not regulated by the OCC, we will refer it to another agency. We will notify you if we do so. You should not have to resubmit your complaint or accompanying documentation. However, you may be contacted if the other agency needs additional information.
Pursuant to Federal law, national banks may have subsidiaries, such as securities brokers, providers of investment advice, or insurance brokers, that are regulated by another regulator and not the OCC (such as the SEC, state insurance or securities regulators, or the Federal Reserve). HOW TO FILE A HEALTH INFORMATION PRIVACY COMPLAINT WITH THE OFFICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS

If you believe that a person, agency or organization covered under the HIPAA Privacy Rule ("a covered entity") violated your (or someone else's ) health information privacy rights or committed another violation of the Privacy Rule, you may file a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). OCR has authority to receive and investigate complaints against covered entities related to the Privacy Rule. A covered entity is a health plan, health care clearinghouse, and any health care provider who conducts certain health care transactions electronically. For more information about the Privacy Rule, please look at our responses to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and our Privacy Guidance. (See the web link near the bottom of this form.)
Complaints to the Office for Civil Rights must: (1) Be filed in writing, either on paper or electronically; (2) name the entity that is the subject of the complaint and describe the acts or omissions believed to be in violation of the applicable requirements of the Privacy Rule; and (3) be filed within 180 days of when you knew that the act or omission complained of occurred. OCR may extend the 180-day period if you can show "good cause." Any alleged violation must have occurred on or after April 14, 2003 (on or after April 14, 2004 for small health plans), for OCR to have authority to investigate.
Anyone can file written complaints with OCR by mail, fax, or email. If you need help filing a complaint or have a question about the complaint form, please call this OCR toll free number: 1-800-368-1019. OCR has ten regional offices, and each regional office covers certain states. You should send your complaint to the appropriate OCR Regional Office, based on the region where the alleged violation took place. James Redfield was 43 when he published The Celestine Prophecy, which chronicles Nine Insights into a greater spirituality. He has been keenly interested in human spirituality all of his life. Born on March 19, 1950, he grew up in a rural area near Birmingham, Alabama. From an early age, he was motivated by a need for clarity about spiritual matters. Brought up in a Methodist Church that was loving and community-oriented, he was nevertheless frustrated by a lack of answers to his questions about the true nature of spiritual experience. As a young man, he studied Eastern philosophies, including Taoism and Zen, while majoring in sociology at Auburn University. He later received a Master's degree in counseling and spent more than 15 years as a therapist to abused adolescents. During this time, he was drawn into the human potential movement and turned to it for theories about intuitions and psychic phenomena that would help his troubled clients. All along, Redfield was forming ideas that would eventually find their way into The Celestine Prophecy. In 1989, he quit his job as a therapist to write full-time, synthesizing his interest in interactive psychology, Eastern and Western philosophies, science, futurism, ecology, history, and mysticism.
Using an adventure parable approach that has been called "part Indiana Jones, part Scott Peck," The Celestine Prophecy created a model for spiritual perception and actualization that resonated with millions of people and focused on the mysterious coincidences that occur in each of our lives. Disdaining the spotlight himself, Redfield proclaimed in The Celestine Prophecy that each of us must intuit his own spiritual destiny.
As he writes in The Celestine Vision, his non-fiction title published in 1997, "The actual writing of The Celestine Prophecy occurred from January 1989 through April 1991 and was characterized by a sort of trial-and-error process. Quite amazingly, as I remembered earlier experiences and wrote about them, lacing them into an adventure tale, striking coincidences would occur to emphasize the particular points I wanted to make. Books would show up mysteriously, or I would have timely encounters with the exact sort of individuals I was attempting to describe. Sometimes strangers would open up to me for no apparent reason and tell me about their spiritual experiences." Feeling "kind of stuck" at one point, Redfield went to the high-energy vortexes of Sedona, Arizona-an area that he and many others regard as a sacred place. As he recounts in an interview in Body, Mind, Spirit magazine: "I was sitting on a ridge near the Chapel Vortex and trying to work with the notes for the book. It was not coming easily. All of a sudden, a crow flew out of the canyon and right over my head and then flew back into the canyon. I continued to make notes. I was having some trouble getting the story to flow out. The crow came out of the canyon again and flew over me, then back into the canyon, so I went into the canyon, and when I sat down the book just came pouring out." The flow halted, however, when Redfield began sending The Celestine Prophecy to publishers in 1992. He did receive a few offers, but they did not seem right. "The companies all wanted to take between a year and 18 months to get the book out. I felt the book was timely and that we should get it out right away.
"All the coincidences stopped, and I felt dead in the water. I was interpreting the complete lack of publishing opportunity as a failure, a negative event, and that was the interpretation that had stopped the coincidences that I felt had been leading me forward. When I realized what was happening, I snapped to attention and made more revisions to the book, emphasizing this point."
Within days, Redfield heard about a publishing consultant from New York who had just moved into the area. Driven by intuition to seek him out, the two met, and the coincidences began again. Redfield quickly decided to self-publish the book. Just as he went to print, he met Salle Merrill, who brought with her a timely emphasis on the importance of giving. Now husband and wife, James and Salle filled the trunk of their car with copies of The Celestine Prophecy and drove to bookstores, meeting readers and talking about the book. "Of the first 3,000 copies we printed, we mailed or personally gave away 1,500 to small book shops and individuals in Alabama, Florida, North Carolina and Virginia." James recalls in The Celestine Vision, "Word of mouth recommendations took care of everything else." In six months, the book had over 100,000 copies in print, was in all 50 states, and was appearing in countries around the world. "It sold not because of any publicity I did, but because others began to give it to their friends everywhere."
After the self-published book was brought to the attention of Warner Books through a perceptive sales rep, Warner Books bought the rights and published the hard cover edition in March 1994. The book quickly climbed to the #1 position on the New York Times bestsellers list. It remained on that list for more than three years, joined by The Tenth Insight, which built upon the Nine Insights revealed in the first novel.
In October 1997, James Redfield was awarded the highly prestigious Medal of the Presidency of the Italian Senate at the XXIII Pio Manzu International Conference in Rimini, Italy. Pio Manzu is a nongovernmental arm of the United Nations headed up by Mikhail Gorbachev.
James has been widely involved in saving America's last wilderness areas. He has lobbied officially and met socially with Senators and Representatives to promote the Act to Save America's Forests, legislation written by the Washington-based environmental group, Save America's Forests. In early 1999, James Redfield became involved with the Global Renaissance Alliance (GRA), an organization founded by Marianne Williamson and Neale Donald Walsch. GRA's mission is to reawaken people more to the principles of non-violence and the need to infuse spiritual values into the political system.
In the spring of 2000, James joined Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat For Humanity, as the only two recipients of Humanitarian of the Year honors from their alma mater, Auburn University. Two months later, he was honored by the International New Thought Alliance with another Humanitarian of the Year award.

Trichotillomania (TTM), is a problem characterized by the repeated urge to pull out hair fibers mainly from the scalp, though the focus can also be on pulling eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, nose, pubic or other body hair. It is a condition in which the affected individual plucks or pulls out their own hair resulting in bald patches. The general causes of Trichotillomania may be anxiety disorders or mood problems.
Traction alopecia is also a hair-pulling disorder. But here the cause may involve things like tight hat bands or tight braids. If bands are used to tie tight pony tails, or cornrow hair styles are used then the roots of the hair are pulled on (traction). And when the traction continues for a long time and the same hair is repeatedly stressed, then the hair sheds off and the follicles in the skin can become damaged. The hair may eventually stop growing leading to permanent scarring alopecia. Traction alopecia is a substantial risk in hair weaves, which are usually worn either to conceal hair loss, or purely for cosmetic purposes.
Uncombable Hair Syndrome (UHS) is a rare disease in which the hair grows in silvery-blond or straw-colored, stands out straight from the scalp and is impossible to comb. Affected hair is dry, curly, brittle, and progressively uncombable, eventually taking on a “spangled” or shimmery appearance, most likely due to the reflection of light off the irregular surface of the shaft and only scalp hair is affected. It is normally seen in early infancy and childhood and is most likely to disappear as a person grows up.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S IN YOUR SHAMPOO?

Do you read the labels of your shampoos and soaps? If you do read the ingredient list, do you know what all those chemicals are and what they do for your skin and hair? Did you know that the surfactant, sodium laureth sulfate (SLS), is not actually made from coconut oil like the label says? Sometimes we are distracted by advertising slogans depicting all kinds of "actions" the product apparently can accomplish. Reality reveals an industry producing a seemingly endless stream of copycat hair care products with the only significant differences being in their appearance, smell, packaging and marketing slogans. With an air of innocence and trust in regulating agencies like the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, which knowingly allows the SLS deceit as noted above) many of us have assumed our body care products are safe and only act on our hair or greasy skin and have no other activities on the rest of our bodies inside and out. For years many of us have not thought much about the environmental effects of the manufacture of these products and the effects when we let them go down our household drains. Sometimes a product is labeled biodegradable but in reality this describes only some of the base detergent agents while the product contains preservatives and other chemicals which are not biodegradable.

Cosmetic chemists formulate products from a huge selection of synthetic chemicals that are known by doctors and the FDA to be unhealthy for human use. It is hard not to notice the intensely strong fragrance in our body care products, laundry and household cleaners. These are synthetic fragrances and are a leading cause of allergic reactions. Sometimes a product will have as many as 5 different chemical preservatives. Methyl and propyl paraben are common preservatives that are strong sensitizers and cause dermatitis. Sensitization is an insidious problem that occurs after repeated use, sometimes after years of use, and can show up as mysterious skin afflictions in places where the product may never have touched.

Surfactants, inexpensive synthetic agents that make up the base of most liquid soaps and shampoos, are harsh on the hair and skin. Many of the harsh surfactants deplete natural fats and phospholipids from the epidermis that weakens the skin allowing toxins and bacteria to invade. A great many of them have been invented, creating a huge and very profitable industry. Only after the industry flourished, flooding the market with many varieties creating a vast environmental problem, did the governments of many countries in the 1960’s ban the most harmful ones. No long-term effects of these surfactants were studied on the human skin. The first surfactants were so cruel to skin that people using them everyday developed eczema and dermatitis. The medical profession finally spoke up and the most damaging ones were taken off the market. That was possibly the largest unauthorized test on an innocent public that has ever occurred. Some think the same kind of unauthorized testing is still going on with many people suffering from various skin conditions.

I remember when I was a teenager and pHisohex, an antibacterial cleaner, was all the rage. We used it to wash our faces, bodies and as hand soap at the sink. It contained hexachlorophene, which in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s became linked to infant deaths and brain damage. This prompted warnings on products containing hexachlorophene to read "not to be used on babies". PHisohex was eventually taken off the market due to toxic reactions.

Safety is determined by exactly what percentage contained in a product will cause immediate symptoms of health problems. Less than the lowest percentage that caused an adverse reaction is not always what manufacturers are allowed to use. Sometimes they are allowed to use more. I can’t help but to imagine that could be because a company can come up with a study where a more resilient animal tolerated a higher percentage of the nasty substance. The FDA’s GRAS stands for "generally recognized as safe", is a list that seems to be more protective for the chemical companies than for your safety.

The products concocted don’t just offer a basic, gentle cleaning action but are made to have just the desired size bubble, just the right amount of foaming ability, clear color or pearl-like look and thick, smooth texture. There are several synthetic chemicals in each of these categories from which to choose to accomplish these "most important" qualities. The following is a small sampling of ingredients commonly found in shampoos and liquid soaps:

Sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate are alkyl sulfates and are surfactants widely used in most shampoos, toothpaste, lotions and creams today. Labeling regulations allow "derived from coconut oil" which is untrue today because they are synthetically produced now from petroleum but was true in the 1940’s when originally developed. The chemical industry considers them to be some of their most gentle cleansers for the skin and hair, especially sodium laureth sulfate. In high concentrations they both are very irritant, drying to skin, hair, irritating to eyes, caused damages like cracking, severe inflammation and cause allergic reactions. They both have a lot of potential to become contaminated with nitrosamines. Sulfates are used to manufacture these synthetic surfactants and are harmful to marine life and the environment.

Alkyloamides have actions that are thickening, gelling, emulsifying, foam boosting, foam stabilizing and opacifying, which changes appearance from clear to cloudy, sometimes making white pearl-like appearance. 4 Main groups of alkyloamides are: diethanolamides (DEA), monoethanolamides (MEA), monoisopropanolamides (MIPA), ethoxylated or PEG alkanolamides. All are harmful to environment and can become contaminated with nitrosamines.

Amodimethicone is silicone fluid used to give a smooth feel which causes allergic reactions.

CA-24 (chloroacetamide) also known as acidamide is used as antimicrobial in shampoos and bath lotions at concentrations up to 0.3%. People have had allergic reactions from it using as little as 0.1% dilution. The European Economic Community requires label warnings on products containing chloroacetamide.

Cocoamide DEA is a synthetic foam stabilizer and thickener which may be contaminated with carcinogenic nitrosamines.

Cocamidopropyl betaine causes eyelid dermatitis.

Sodium Myeth Sulfate is a synthetic detergent and not biodegradable.

DMDM Hydantoin is a form of formaldehyde and is used as a preservative.

Ext. D&C Color certified as safe for drugs and cosmetics, not for food. It is a synthetic, coal tar color and is toxic. Coal tar has been shown to be carcinogenic in animal tests and many people are allergic to it.

Ext. D&C Violet #2 is in the anthraquinone family of coal tars which is made from phthalic anhydride and benzene. This chemical mix causes tumors in lab rats and causes serious skin rashes. Benzene is a petrochemical solvent known to cause depression, convulsions, coma and death with prolonged exposure suspected to cause leukemia. Even inhaling the vapors can be absorbed through the skin and cause irritation.

Formaldehyde is a suspected carcinogen and found in many preservatives including the hydantoins. It’s extremely toxic when inhaled or swallowed. Nearly half of all people exposed to it experience a toxic reaction. In the past the FDA banned formaldehyde in cosmetics but is still used in shampoos. EEC requires label disclosure if it used in a certain percentage.

Glyceryl Stearate S.E. a synthetic used for a pearlizing effect, emulsifier and opacifier (changes appearance from clear to cloudy) which can cause irritation and clogged pores.

Imidazolidinyl urea (also known as Germall and phenoxyethanol) is a synthetic preservative that can release formaldehyde at temperatures over 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Irgasan DP 300 ( also named Triclosan) is phototoxic, an environmental pollutant because hydrocarbons are known to pollute the air, water and land, and a suspected carcinogen because it comes from coal tar.

Lauramide DEA is a surfactant, foam-builder, can be irritating to the skin and can be contaminated with nitrosamines.

Laureth 1-40 a synthetic surfactant and foaming agent.

Laurylmyrist-oleamidosulfo-succinate a synthetic fatty alcohol used as a dispersant and a surfactant that causes allergic reactions and damages the environment.

Linoleamidopropyl ethly dimonium ethosulfate can be contaminated with carcinogenic nitrosamines.

Methylparaben a synthetic preservative.

Mineral Oil is manufactured from petroleum and causes allergic reactions with topical use and many be phototoxic.

Propylene Glycol is considered safe by the FDA and is a petrochemical used in antifreeze and brake fluid. It is a cheap synthetic humectant and emulsifier made from mineral oil. Sweet and natural vegetable glycerin would do just as well and not be harmful. It’s use as a humectant and moisturizer is questionable because it replaces and repels important components for healthy skin. Skin functions on water and propylene acts as a replacement for water but the skin can’t use it. A low concentration of it is advised in products but you will often find it near the top of the ingredient list indicating a high concentration. High level of usage is a considered a possible cause of increasing liver and kidney related health problems. In 1991 a report to the American Academy of Dermatologists showed it to cause a significant number of reactions and was a primary irritant to the skin even in low levels of concentration.

Quaternary ammonium salts including stearalkonium chloride, quaternary-15 (a fungicide) are used in the paper and fabric industries, as fabric softeners, water repellents, anti-static agents and corrosion inhibitors. They are very common in hair conditioners and crème rinses. While initially giving a soft feel to hair they eventually make the hair dry and brittle also causing skin rashes and allergic reactions and environmental harm. The agents in conditioners and crème rinses can build up and coat the hair to such an extent that it takes stronger and harsher shampoos to lift the film. Quaternary-15 has caused severe sensitivities to medical drugs.

Nitrosamines All "amines" and "amides" are capable of forming N-nitroso compounds which, in animal experiments, have been found to be quite carcinogenic. One in particular that occurs in many cosmetics is identified as NDELA N-nitrosodiethanolamine which according to a 1977 FDA report is a potent carcinogen. The chemical, TEA (triethanolamine), extensively used in cosmetics is the one primarily suspected of creating NDELA. DEA (diethanolamine) is another one capable of forming NDELA. Not much press has been given to this subject but one consumer magazine has recommended not using products containing TEA or DEA. One study reported over 40% of TEA containing products tested contained nitrosamines.

Health conscious individuals take care to avoid eating food containing nitrates but even typical use of a shampoo contaminated with NDELA can lead to even higher levels of absorption than eating it.

Nitrosamines are contaminants of chemical based cosmetic products. Contamination can occur during many stages of manufacturing including certain pH balances, water solutions and in storage and shipment from the seams in the metal drums. Because of the chemical nature of common preservatives used in these conventional products, they either do not protect from nitrosamine formation or they actually contribute to further contamination.

Examples of typical ingredients likely to be contaminated with nitrosamines: sodium lauryl sulfate, TEA-lauryl sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, TEA laureth sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, lauroyl sarcosine, cocoyl sarcosine, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, sodium cocoyl sarcosinate, potassium coco-hydrolyzed animal protein, formaldehyde, hydrolyzed animal protein, imidazolidinyl urea, monethanolamine (MEA), quaternium-7, 15, 31, 60 etc., disodium oleamide sulfosuccinate, sodium dioctyl sulfosuccinate, sodium methyl oleoyl sulfate and sodium lauryl isoethionate, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, sodium nitrite, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol.

I highly recommend the following books because from the information in these books I have just barely scratched the surface here about the facts behind these cosmetic chemical ingredients. These books contain many more ingredient explanations and also contain ingredients common in conditioners, styling products, moisturizers and make-up.

Some who come across this kind of information feel unmotivated to act upon it. They may feel if we have survived so far with the presence of these chemicals, which our government allows as "OK", then it’s really no big deal and what’s all the fuss? I am one who is motivated to quietly break the chain. If I can do my small part to encourage less production of these chemicals I am happy to do it. Other than writing this article and conducting business at Cheryl’s Herbs in an ethical way, I’m not greatly motivated to take a bigger stand. We the consumer have quite a lot on influence on business and industry. Because there are more natural alternatives, it can be as easy as a simple choice when I go shopping.

Color Correction is usually NOT the salon professional's fault. Most often, color is applied correctly to match a swatch that is the guide. Read Labels

If you want to stay away from these chemicals stay out of mainstream drug stores, department stores, and grocery stores. You can also make you own cosmetic products, which I will discuss later. Start shopping for body care products at Natural food stores but this is no guarantee. Some so-called natural companies are better than others. You still have to learn to read labels before you purchase or use anything on your body. Think of it this way; don't put anything on your skin that you wouldn't eat. Look for products made from herbs and plants found in nature.

Beware of these following claims:

1. Not tested on animals. Just because the finished product wasn't tested on animals doesn't mean that the individual chemicals in the product weren't!

2.Natural- Means absolutely nothing.

3.Organic-Only one ingredient in the formulation has to be organic for this claim to be made.

Avoid Certain Ingredients:

I can't possibly mention all the ingredients to avoid. Rule of thumb, if you can't pronounce it don't use it. Here are just a few:

1) Methyl, Propyl, Butyl, and Ethyl Parabens- Preservatives derived from petroleum used in 99% of all hair and skin products today and in many so-called 'natural' products. They are highly toxic, mimic estrogen, cause hormone imbalances, and are linked to reproductive cancer. They may play a role in falling sperm counts and rising breast cancer rates. Companies use these because they are extremely cheap and they extend the shelf life of the product by inhibiting microbial growth.

2.) Formaldehydes: DMDM hydantoin, Quaternium 15, Diazolidinyl Urea, Imidazolidinyl Urea, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 3-diol-Widely used as preservatives second only to the parabens. They release formaldehyde at just over ten degrees. They are known to be irritating to mucus membranes, can cause an inability to urinate, skin rashes, internal bleeding, and are known carcinogens.

2) Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS)-This toxic synthetic (used for its foaming properties) is a harsh detergent believed to case urinary tract, bladder, and kidney infections, genital disorders, eye irritations, skin rashes, hair loss, scalp problems similar to dandruff, and allergic reactions. It forms carcinogenic nitrogen compounds when combined with specific ingredients. It penetrates the skin and has long-term retention in the body. Almost every "regular' conventional shampoo contains it. Also found in toothpaste. It is frequently disguised in so called "natural" cosmetics with the explanation that the source is " from coconut."

3) Synthetic Colors- Labeled as FD&C or D&C, followed by a color number (such as FD&C Yellow 6) Developed from coal tar, aluminum salts, and lead. Lead toxicity primarily targets the nervous system, kidneys, bones, heart, blood and poses greatest risk to infants, young children, and pregnant women. Many colors are considered to be cancer causing. Some dyes are a risk to asthmatics, eczema sufferers and people sensitive to aspirin. Some cause hyperactivity in children, severe headaches, blurred vision and itchy/watery eyes and nose. (When you wear lipstick with these colors--and most contain them--you are EATING them!)

4) Synthetic Fragrances-When a label simply lists "fragrance," it can refer to any combination of up to 200 cheap, synthetic, toxic ingredients that can cause headaches, dizziness, rashes, skin discoloration, violent coughing, vomiting, and allergic skin irritation. Fragrances can affect the central nervous system causing depression, hyperactivity, irritability, inability to cope, and other behavioral changes. They mimic estrogen, remain in body fat, and have been found in mother's breast milk.

5). Parraffin -Derived from petroleum in the form of wax, mineral oil or petrolatum jelly. Paraffins promote sun damage, as well as coating the skin and interfering with the body's own natural moisturizing mechanism. They mimic estrogen. They create the very conditions they claim to alleviate. Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap. Found in chap sticks, lip sticks, lotions, and other personal care products.

6.) Aluminum -Aluminum is mostly absorbed through the skin, lungs, and intestinal tract. Too much aluminum may cause problems with metabolic processes, particularly those concerning calcium, phosphorus and iron. Aluminum may also contribute to Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, dementia, and other neurological disorders. It is carcinogenic, toxic and mutagenic; a coloring agent found in eye shadows, toothpastes, hair dyes, antiperspirants, lipsticks and more.

7.) Sunscreen-Avoid conventional sunscreens. Avoid these ingredients: Octyl-Dimethyl-Para-Amino-Benzoic Acid and Oxybenzone. Research shows that a factor in skin cancer may be a result of the sunscreen chemicals absorbing into our skin and the toxins mutating in the hot sun. Look for natural sunscreen with Titanium Dioxide (a mineral) and other natural ingredients.

Health conscious individuals take care to avoid eating food containing nitrates but even typical use of a shampoo contaminated with NDELA can lead to even higher levels of absorption than eating it.

Chlorine:

Chlorine is an element used to kill bacteria in drinking water and pools, and as an active bleach to remove pigment in color. Chlorine can discolor hair, damage the cuticle and protein, and create an oxidizing effect on elements in the hair. Active chlorine can leave hair feeling gummy when wet, and straw-like when dry. Chlorine can alter the electrical charge on minerals in the hair, causing them to bond stronger to the hair, and may even change the color of certain minerals. The highly charged mineral may, in turn, damage and/or discolor the hair.

Used like chlorine, especially in hot pools, such as whirlpools and spas.
How Minerals Get Into WaterGround water and surface water are the sources of water for homes and businesses.Ground water comes from under the ground. Both domestic and community wells derive their water from rain passing through aquifers, which are layers of minerals.
The acidity (pH below 7.0) of the rain increases the dissolving effect of minerals; therefore, these dissolved solids are found in the water when pumped above groundand used in bathing.
Surface water comes from rivers or lakes, usually containing fewer minerals because the water has not filtered down through the mineral layers. Unfortunately, increasingpopulations are polluting the water, which causes additional bacterial growth. This growth is controlled at treatment facilities by adding chlorine to kill bacteria, and then adding lime (a calcium compound) to help control chlorine levels.

How Minerals Can Attach on to Your HairMinerals affecting the hair are charged positive. This attachment createsa "wall" of minerals on the protein, blocking solutions, preventing proper penetration of color, perm, and relaxer. Minerals found in water at home are continuously exposedto the hair during bathing. Since hot or warm water is usually selected to wash hair, the cuticle is opened, allowing positively charged elements, such as minerals, to get inside the cuticle and attach to the protein.

How Minerals Can Affect Hair

Calcium Effect on HairThis mineral is in most of the water in the United States and unfortunately, causes serious problems not usually recognized by most professional stylists andtheir clients.

Mineralized calcium is found naturally in the ground, especially where limestone is present. Calcium (also known as lime) is injected into most water systemsas part of the water treatment process.

Three ways calcium affects hair:

Calcium builds up on the hair, leaving the hair feeling dry and weighted down. It can even cause perms to be relaxed.
Calcium salts build up on the scalp and cause flaking, often know as dandruff. These deposits are much like the "bathtub ring" associated with hard water and bath soap.
Calcium "build-up" can clog the hair at the mouth of the follicle, causing the hair tobreak off, and may coat the scalp, blocking further hair growth.

Copper: This mineral bonds strongly to the hair and originates either from underground water, particles from copper water pipes, or most commonly, copper sulfates added to pool and drinking water to control algae growth. Oxidized copper discolors light hair,producing a green tint, and causes dark hair to tint darker. It can weigh hair down, and also cause problems in perms, colors, and relaxers.

Iron: Found usually in well water in areas that have concentrations of iron in the ground. Concentrations of iron will slowly cause hair to tint darker, add weight to the hair, and prevent proper chemical processing. Heavy amounts of iron will tint light-coloredhair orange and cause dark hair to become darker with red highlights. Oxidized iron actually functions as an oxidizer in hair in much the same way that mildperoxide attacks the hair. It may cause an excessive dry feeling in the hair and may actually change the textural appearance of the hair.

Magnesium: Magnesium is abundant in the soil and is very much a part of the mineral complex associated with hard water. Like calcium, magnesium attaches tothe hair, leaving it feeling dry and weighted down.

Silica: Sand-like substance found in areas of volcanic or desert-like areas. It is usually bound to calcium or magnesium and forms very hard, virtually insolubledeposits on surfaces. Water borne silica can build up on the hair, causing the same effect as calcium - dryness, dandruff, weight, and hair loss.

Lead: Lead acetate is used in certain home remedy gray cover-ups, such as Grecian Formula. This element can build up, leaving the hair feeling dry and preventing proper chemical services, such as perms and colors, from processing properly.

How do manufacturers of "henna hair dye" make all those different henna colors?

Boxes of commercially produced “henna for hair” come in a range of colors.
Henna, itself, DOES NOT come in a range of colors.
The only dye molecule in henna (Lawsonia Inermis) in sufficient quantity to stain hair is Lawsone , which is a red-orange molecule. Any company that claims they create the wide range of henna colors with 100% henna, using roots, bark, or other parts of the henna plant to achieve their colors is …… lying or seriously ignorant. Only henna leaves are useful for dying hair, and other parts of the henna plant do not dye hair other colors. Chemicals, metallic salts or other plants must be added to henna to make any color other than red.
These pre-mixed colors are compound hennas. If you buy a box labeled henna that claims to dye hair blonde, brown or black, there is something other than henna in that box.

Compound Henna Dye

This is a term that refers to hair dye marketed as henna, and is formulated in different colors.
These mixtures may contain additional plant dyes, may contain metallic salts, and may contain para-phenylenedmine.

Compound henna may damage your hair.

Pure body art quality henna is good for your hair.
There is no such plant as "blond henna", "brown henna" or "black henna". The plant, henna, lawsonia inermis, has only one dye molecule, and that molecule is red-orange. Chemicals, metallic salts or other dye plants must be added to henna to make any color other than red. These mixes are termed compound hennas. Some dye plants can be added to alter the color of henna. Some chemicals can be added to alter the color of henna. Metallic salts alter and fix a dye stain. Many “henna colors” are created with metallic salts. The most frequently used material is lead acetate, though silver nitrate, copper, nickel, cobalt, bismuth and iron salts have also been used.
Dyes with lead acetate gradually deposit a mixture of lead sulfide and lead oxide on the hair shaft.
When you hear that henna has “metal”, “lead”, or “coats the hair” and “leaves it brittle”, that refers to a compound henna dye, full of these metallic salts.

Hair bleach, permanent hair color, and permanent wave solution are a disastrous combination with compound (metallic salt) henna dyes. These can result in green, purple, or totally fried hair.
Some pre-mixed hennas have para-phenylenediamine. Some pre-mixed hennas have very little henna whatsoever.

Body art quality henna does NOT have metals, lead, nor does it “coat the hair”.

This is very much like learning to do your own cooking instead of eating processed food. You'll know what you're getting and you'll know what its doing.
The pre-mixed "compound henna" products may not have an accurate or complete ingredient declaration. If you cannot be certain what is in each box, you cannot be certain what cross reactions may occur between your compound henna and preceding or subsequent chemical process, and you won't know if you're going to have an allergic reaction to something in that mixture.

How can you find out if the henna hair dye you've been using has toxic metallic salts?
Harvest some of your hair; and take it to the henna proffesional a least 10 days before henna.

If there's lead in the henna you've used, your hair will change color immediately.

If there's silver nitrate in the henna you've been using, there will be no change in hair color, because silver is coating the hair. However, silver nitrate leaves a greenish cast to your hair, so you can tell by that.

If there's copper in the henna you've used, your hair will start to boil, the hair will be hot and smell horrible, and the hair will disintegrate.
With all that crap, frequently unlisted, in some henna products, no wonder henna's gotten a bad rap!

Why do some boxes of "colored henna" have no declaration of ingredients?

Some countries where these products are initially manufactured do not have laws requiring the declaration of ingredients in cosmetics. So, they can put anything they want in that box and they don't have to tell you what's in it. If someone in the USA imports these mixes, they are not required by law to go back and discover what's in the bulk mix that was passed through customs marked as "henna", and they don't have to declare it on their package. This is how a company can have a dozen "colors of henna" from blond to black, and sell them without listing their ingredients .. and they usually do. The person selling the product may have no idea what's in the box, or they may know and not want to tell you. If its a box of hair dye that claims to be henna and it claims to dye hair something other than red, and the powder inside is not green ... it is NOT HENNA. Many products labeled "herbal henna" actually contain para-phenylenediamine. If you're allergic to chemical hair dye and you use "herbal henna" you may to have an allergic reaction to the chemicals in it. The claim of "no ammonia, no peroxide, all natural" does not mean you're getting safe, pure henna.
You can add other plant dyes to henna to create hair dye colors:
Mixtures with other plant dyes with henna, to create other dye colors, are called “henna rangs”.
Indigo, Indigofera tinctoria
Is a plant that produces a dark violet blue dye, which we are familiar with as the color used to dye blue jeans. Indigo can be used with henna to dye cloth and hair from brown to pure black, depending on the proportions of henna and indigo. Though you can use indigo to dye skin blue, you cannot dye skin black with indigo.

Woad, Isatis tinctoria
Woad is a plant that had a blue dye, and it is also used to dye hair. It is more dye fast in hair than indigo, but it does not create the vivid blue-black. You can use woad to dye skin blue, but you also cannot dye skin black with woad.

Walnut, Juglans regia
The leaves, or green walnut shells from walnuts can be combined with henna to create brown hair dye. Walnut dye is juglone, 5-hydroxy-1.4-napthoquinone. This is a larger molecule than henna. It is not a long-lasting dye in hair, so is usually used with henna. . Many people are allergic to walnut! Walnut is often mixed into henna powder for skin. It makes a very fast dark stain, but it does not penetrate as deeply as henna, and is far more likely to cause skin irritation or an allergic reaction.

Catechu, Ourouparia gambir and Acacia catechu Catechu is from two different species, Ourouparia gambir and Acacia Catechu. Ourouparia gambir makes a yellow dye, and Acacia catechu makes a dark brown dye. These are tannin dyes. Extracted tannins from these dye plants are added to henna to create other various shades of henna, blondes, browns, and dark browns.

The refined, concentrated chemicals in these products may stain hair more quickly than traditional henna mixes. In 1980's the following were marketed with ingredients similar to products currently on the market. These products often have "henna" and "natural" on the front of the box, when there's little of either within the box.
Meta Henna International marketed seven “henna colors” from blonde to black. They used henna extract to create a fast brilliant color, then added other dye plant extracts to propylene glycol. This made a concentrated, fast acting, premixed color base.
Autumn Glow had a henna hair product line also was based on henna extract, with added Lawsone.
Henna lights were color intensifying shampoos with henna extract. Their blond had chamomile, and their brunette was henna. Both had hydrolyzed animal protein in a shampoo base.
These may not be harmful in themselves, but they certainly add to the confusion about henna, because their labeling implies that they are made of natural henna.

Laser hair therapy (LHT)

is a new non-surgical method for treating hair loss, thinning hair, and dry itchy problems with the scalp. LHT is medically tested and effective for men and women who are suffering from hair loss. This non invasive process utilizes a therapeutic device containing cool low level light lasers developed in Europe for the treatment of hair loss and diseases of the scalp.

Men and women between the ages of 18 and 91, suffering from thinning or excess hair loss will benefit from laser hair therapy (LHT).

Low Level Lasers are "soft" or "cold" lasers that do not have the thermal component to cut or burn tissue. Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is based on the scientific principle of photobio-therapy, which occurs when laser light is absorbed by cells. LLLT was first used to treat ulcers in diabetics with poor blood supply. Sunless Tanning - Steps to Great Results

sunless program has 4 steps and has products specially designed for each step to give you an incredible year round tan and to extend the length of your sunless tan. By doing each step, your tan will last 7-10 days normally.

The steps are:

Prepare,Apply,Maintain,Extend

Prepare – Step 1

For best results, plan ahead.

Exfoliating the day you are going to be spray tanned makes a huge difference in the life of your tan.

The Biddiscombe Pre-sunless Scrubs are for home use and gently exfoliate and smooth the skin.
Towel off well and your ready.

Avoid using deodorants, body lotions, perfume and oils before you spray.

Wear loose fitting, darker colored cloths when you come for your sunless tanning session. The cosmetic color in our sunless solution may rub off to a small extent on clothing after your have dried but it washes out easily.

We strongly recommend not wearing valuable clothing such as silks or linens.

Also we are aware that solutions have been known to stain lycra.

Apply – Step 2

The application is done by a trained sunless technician using either airbrush or HVLP spray technology.
They will ask you to stand in various positions to ensure an even and thorough application.

The color will fully develop over 6 to 8 hours after which you can shower.

It is possible to shower after 4 hours, particularly with some of our stronger solutions.

The tanning process will continue but will be reduced significantly with early showering.

What you see washing down the drain is the cosmetic color in the solutions.

This is normal.
Remember that immediate washing or activities causing you to perspire right after spraying will affect the length of your tan. Let your tan develop.
Your sunless color will continue to develop for up to 24 hours.

Maintain – Step 3

Using harsh soaps will reduce the length of your sunless tan.

Use of a gentle body wash helps maintain your tan.
Specifically designed for use with sunless tanning,

the Biddiscombe pH Moisturizing Body Washes are a clean, lightly fragranced body washes that hydrates the skin, will give the skin a smooth satin feel, and will greatly help in preserving your tan.
Using exfoliating products after a sunless tan will significantly reduce the life of your tan.
We recommend generally staying out of hot tubs and swimming pools as the chlorine will reduce tan intensity.

Extend – Step 4

Utilizing tan extenders does make a significant difference in tan duration and will help preserve color for the maximum time possible.

Should you not be using a tan extender or using one every day, use of a good quality moisturizer will help lengthen tan life.
Formulated for sunless tanners, Biddiscombe’s Tan Extenders will moisturize your skin with a combination of rich emollients, anti-oxidants, and fortifying botanicals.

Most tan extenders contain the self tanner ingredient DHA and you will get additional color depending on how heavy the product is applied, the frequency of use and the amount of DHA in the lotion.
Sunless tans can wear off on different parts of the body at various rates due to rubbing. Tan Extenders can be used as a touch up to maintain a consistent tanned appearance.
We have also found that many customers like to use our aerosol self tanners Toned and Passport as touch up sprays
Since most tan extenders contain DHA in it, be sure to wash your hands after applying to avoid coloration of your palms.

HVLP or High Volume, Low Pressure. The compressor or blower which is also known as a turbine system is similar to a vacuum cleaner technology operating in reverse. The guns have a pistol type grip and operate at a pressure of less than 6 psi.

HVLP is fast. An experienced technician can spray a client in 6 minutes or so. It also has little over-spray. Many states have required auto paint shops to switch from spray guns to HVLP systems because studies have shown dramatic reductions in over-spray – better for the environment and for the applicator.

In our lab, we are able to spray with HVLP without exhaust fans with virtually no over-spray.
Skilled technicians are very proficient at handling detailed application with HVLP and use 1.5 to 2 ounces per client. Spray technique is very important.

The key is to spray from about 4 to 6 inches. We have some salons call us about excess DHA solution usage with HVLP. After some discussion it was discovered that technicians were spraying at distances of 2 and 3 feet.

HVLP compressors are generally louder than those for airbrush. We work with Accuspray and their new unit operates at between 65 and 70 decibels. While this is about the level of a radio or street noise, it can be too loud for some environments.

Air Brush Sunless Tanning

It is the newest crazy to hit the indoor tanning industry.
The booths that apply DHA solution can cost up to $55,000.
An economical alternative is to apply the same solution used in the expensive booths with an airbrush spray.
. Most salons are charging around $35-$45to apply the solution.
It takes about 5 to 7 minutes per application once you get the hang of it.
You will find that many of your existing tanners will use this to augment their regular tanning schedules and you can now offer a tanning alternative to people that have an aversion to UV based tanning of any kind.

Clients should not shower, take a bath or do anything that causes them to sweat for a minimum of 8 hours after application.

How does the D.H.A. solution make your skin tan?

The D.H.A. solution causes the proteins in the outside layer of your skin to react with the oxygen in the air resulting in a bronzing effect.
The best way to understand this can be illustrated in this analogy: When you take a bite out of an apple and set it down the fruit begins to turn brown after it is exposed to the air for a while.

This is a very similar chemical reaction to what takes place with the D.H.A. and your skin after an airbrush session. So you can see that you are not applying a dye or color to your skin but rather creating a situation where your skin develops a beautiful natural bronze color on it's own through a natural chemical enhancement.

Before You Tan24 hours prior to application have your customer use an exfoliating scrub.
Shave or wax legs.
Make up should be removed.
Do not moisturize the morning of the application. Moisturizer will inhibit the ability of the mist to soak in properly.
Wear old dark colored undergarments to be sprayed in.
DHA solution will completely wash out of cotton.
It will not wash out of synthetic, leather or suede.
After You TanBlow dry your body until the solution is absorbed and dry. (About 5 minutes) Wear loose fitting clothing.
We recommend dark colored cotton clothing until the initial shower.
Do not work out for at least 8 hours after application.
Sweat can cause a natural reaction that results in poor color and uneven tanning.
Using our bronzing moisturizer daily between sessions will improve the longevity of the airbrush tan.

Air Brush Sunless Tanning F.A.Q.

1. What is the air-brushed sunless tanning process?

The air-brushed sunless tanning process uses an ingredient called dihydroxyacetone (DHA) to react with the skins amino acids. The reaction is like that of the sun, but is not damaging to the skin. The process results in a golden tan appearance that can last up to 10 days. It is a healthy safe way to tan. This new process appeals to both people who already like tanning beds and those who don't.

2. What kind of results can I expect?

The same results that get from lying in a tanning bed or exposing yourself to the sun.
Even though there is no skin damage from overexposure when you use the air-brushed sunless tanning process, with overexposure you could see a possible orange distortion instead of the bronze we are trying to achieve.
The darker you tan naturally the darker you will become with the air-brushed sunless tanning process.

3. How long will this last?

This really depends on several factors. The air-brushed sunless tanning process only affects the epidermis layer of skin. Since cells are constantly being naturally discarded it is recommended that you exfoliate with some type of scrub before you have the DHA solution applied. Just like with a UV generated tan, using a good moisturizer will prolong the life of your tan. Results can still be seen up to 10 days after application.

4. What are the challenges associated with the air-brushed sunless tanning process?

If you have used a self tanner from the drug store then you know some of the problems associated with the process: orange color, streaking, blotches, and tanned palms etc.
The air-brushed sunless tanning process virtually eliminates most problems associated with self tanning.
After being sprayed you need to avoid perspiration and don't shower for at least 4 hours.

Erythrulose : Product Description
When combined with DHA it produces a deep dark tan that is unmatched by solutions that use DHA alone.

Erythrulose is a natural keto-sugar which reacts with free primary or secondary amino groups (Maillard's reaction). This reaction with free amino groups of the amino acids of keratin in the skin leads to the DHA-driven formation of brownish polymers, the so-called melanoids.
Erythrulose has been developed to reduce or even eliminate the disadvantages of the presently available self-tanning solutions, namely an irregular and streaky tan as well as a strong drying effect.
Erythrulose is a clear, preservative free solution of a biotechnologically produced, chiral carbohydrate. The impressive properties of pure Erythrulose includes the aerobic fermentation of the bacterium Gluconobacter followed by several purification steps.

In an in vivo test volunteers were treated with a DHA/ Erythrulose solution and others treated with the DHA solution alone for 20 days.

Erythrulose in combination with DHA produced a more even and longer lasting tan without the undesired streaks. The skin treated with the combination solution were 30% less dry than those treated with DHA alone.

The maximal tanning intensity was reached with the Erythrulose after 4-6 days and with DHA after 2 days. This result shows that Erythrulose reacts with the free amino acids of the horny layer more slowly than DHA.

Due to this fact and to its more uniform distribution in the stratum corneum, Erythrulose is believed to to be responsible for a more uniform and even tan.
Erythrulose in combination with DHA produces a deep, uniform and natural skin tan without undesired streaks. Thanks to its retardation effect, Erythrulose prolongs the tan and leaves the skin less dry.

One of the most revered medicinal plants with proven benefits in topical application. Soothing to the skin and especially beneficial in products designed to replenish the skin after damage by the elements.
Antioxidants :
Antioxidants in skin care include the antioxidant vitamins E and C, and beta-carotene. They work by destroying free radicals (oxygen molecules that break down collagen, which causes wrinkles and sagging).
Benzyl Nicotinate :
Imparts a warm, "tingling" effect on the skin. Increases microcirculation, causes the skin to flush. The red flushing that occurs is due to the increased blood flow to the skin and will add color to the skin and depending on the depth and hue of the tan, the person will immediately be darker in color. This coupled with the color generated in the well-documented immediate pigment darkening reaction (IPD) will yield a more intense appearing tan.
Biosaccharide Gum-1 :
Derived from plants, supplies prolonged moisturization and creates a barrier on the skin to reduce after-tanning odor.
Caffeine :
Caffeine stimulates micro circulation and is known for its toning properties.
Canola Oil :
Is a vegetable oil, comes from Canola seed that is very stable, high in Oleic Acid and rich in Vitamin E. It is an excellent emollient and moisturizer, helps reduce irritated skin.
Carbomer :
Thickener and emulsion stabilizer.
Cetyl Alcohol :
It is a fatty alcohol produced from palm and coconut oil. Cetyl Alcohol is used as an emulsifying agent, viscosity increasing agent and emulsion stabilizer in cosmetics.
Citric Acid :
Derived from citrus fruits, has astringent and antioxidant properties. It is also used as a pH regulator.
Cocoa (Theobroma Cacao) Butter :
Is a yellowish white solid obtained from the roasted seeds of Theobroma Cacao whose original home is in the hot jungles of South and Central America. The tree thrives only in countries that lie within 20 degrees of the equator and grows best in lands where the climate is hot and moist. The tree prefers a well-drained porous soil of considerable depth and rich in humus. It is used as an excellent moisturizer and skin protectant to nourish and soften skin. It is also used to help speed the healing of damaged skin, smooth blemishes and soften stretch marks. It can be used to soothe itching from insect bites and rashes.
Copper :
Helps restore skin's firmness and elasticity.
COQ10 :
Powerful antioxidant. Helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Strengthens the skin's defense against sun damage and pollutants.
Diazolidinyl Urea :
A broad acting preservative.
Dimethicone :
A form of silicone used to give products lubricity, slip, and good feel. It is reported to protect the skin against moisture loss when it is used in larger quantities. It improves product flow and spreadability.
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) :
Used as a self-tanning agent. It does not give a "real tan" with protective melanin, but it can create the appearance by way of the development of a brown skin coloring. The action of DHA is limited to the upper layers of the skin and involves a reaction between DHA and skin proteins. DHA reacts with the amino acids and amino groups of the skin keratin forming brown colored compounds. The process takes place in the outer layers of the epidermis. There is much evidence to suggest that the process is similar to Maillard reaction, also known as "non-enzymatic browning". In this reaction, reducing sugars combine with amino acids, proteins and peptides to form various amino carbonyl compounds via a complex chain of reactions, which is not yet completely understood. According to the Maillard reaction, pyruvic acid and other hydroxycarbonyl compounds are probably formed from dihydroxyacetone, which, after further reaction steps, form brown compounds. The development of color takes anywhere from 2 - 4 hours and the intensity is dependent on the formulation concentration of the DHA in the product.
DNA Gel :
Provides rich nutrients for deep skin conditioning to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Erythrulose :
Erythrulose works in a similar way to Dihydroxyacetone. It is a natural keto-sugar which reacts with free primary or secondary amino groups (Maillard's reaction). Erythrulose is used to reduce or even eliminate the disadvantages of many self tanners, namely an irregular and streaky tan as well as intense drying effect. Erythrulose is many times the cost of DHA but we have chosen to use it in many of our products. Erythrulose works synergistically with Dihydroxyacetone to produce premium quality products with a natural looking color and the benefits mentioned above.
Eucalyptus Oil :
An essential oil (Eucalyptol) that has antiseptic properties.
Fragrance (Parfum) :
Used to give an esthetic attribute to the product.
Frescolate or Menthyl Lactate :
A deodorized menthol used to give the skin a cooling sensation.
Ginger (Zingiber Officinale) Extract :
Ginger is an herbaceous plant native to India and tropical Asia. The parts that are used in the products are from the roots of the plant Ginger. This is a botanical ingredient and used as stimulant and skin-conditioning agent.
Ginseng :
Considered tonic and is believed to be nourishing due to its vitamin and hormone content. It seems to aid in diminishing wrinkles, increasing skin elasticity and help dry skin. Other claims include skin rejuvenation, oxygenation, and stimulation. Important constituents include saponins, mucin, vitamin B and ginsenoside. The extract comes from the root.
Glycerine :
A humectant used in moisturizers due to its water-binding capabilities. Helps the skin retain moisture. This humectant has been widely used in products as a moisturizing agent. The glycerin function is to protect and seal moisture on the skin surface.
Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Propylene Glycol, PVM/MA Copolymer :
The common name for this mixture is Lubrajel Oil and it is a low viscosity liquid. Lubrajel Oil is used as a film former, excellent lubricant and lends such characteristics as spreadability, moisturization and silky after-feel to the skin.
Glyceryl Stearate :
Derived from palm kernel or soy oil, is an emulsifier that assists in forming neutral, stable emulsions.
Grape Seed Oil :
A powerful antioxidant to improve elasticity and youthfulness of the skin.
Hemp Oil :
Essential in the hydration of our skin after UV exposure, this oil is an all natural THC and drug free derivative.
Jojoba Oil (Buxus Chinensis) :
A natural, noncomedogenic moisturizer, providing the skin with suppleness and softness. It has long been held in high regard by Native Americans of the Sonoran Desert for its ability to heal and protect the skin. Its consistency is strikingly similar to human sebum, allowing it to effectively penetrate the skin to deep moisturize and deliver other active ingredients. Jojoba shields much the same way that sebum does, creating a protective film over the skin.
Lanolin :
A mixture of a yellow, oily substance obtained from sheep's wool and purified water that is used as an emollient to treat dry skin.
L-Tyrosine :
An amino acid that penetrates the epidermis to the basal layer where melanocytes are located, producing an extra reserve of tyrosine in the skin, assisting or activating melanin synthesis. This increases and prolongs the effect of the tanning process. Tyrosine's effect is improved with the addition of vitamin B.
Macadamia Nut Oil (Macadamia Ternifolia) :
A carrier for active ingredients and a natural moisturizer with excellent penetration properties. It has long been valued by Hawaiians for its ability to protect, soothe and condition the skin. Macadamia nut oil is high in palmitoleic acid, which is an effective antioxidant and a valuable fatty acid that is lost in skin as we age. Recent research indicates that palmitoleic acid may help protect cell membranes against damage.
Mango :
Produced from a tropical evergreen tree of India and Malaysia this rich, juicy fruit provides skin with hydration.
Matrixyl(aka: Palmitoyl-Pentapeptide-3) :

Sodium Hyaluronate :
Is another main component of the skin. It is responsible for maintaining cell structure as well as absorbing moisture.

Dr. Jorge Bucay is an international bestselling author with almost two million books in print. This is his first book to appear in the English language. He lives in Argentina.

Jorge Bucay (born 1949) is a gestalt psychotherapist, psychodramatist, and writer from Argentina. His books have sold more than 2 million copies around the world, and have been translated into more than seventeen languages.
He was born in the Floresta neighborhood of Buenos Aires in 1949 to a modest family.
He started working at the age of thirteen. In the course of his life, he has worked as a socks, books and sports clothing traveling salesman, insurance agent, cabdriver, clown, warehouseman, educator, actor, doctor on duty, host of children's parties, psychiatrist, group coordinator, radio collaborator, and television host.
In 1973, he graduated as a doctor from the University of Buenos Aires, and specialized in mental illnesses at the Buenos Aires Pirovano Hospital and at the Santa Mónica clinic.
He currently defines his job as professional helper. He divides his attention among conferences of therapeutic teaching, which have taken him around the world, and the writing of his books, which he says are therapeutic tools.

IN MY OPINION HE IS AN EXCELLENT PERSON AND PROFESSIONAL, IN MOST OF HIS BOOKS HE ALWAYS TELL HISTORIES BELONIG TO SOME OTHER AUTHORS BUT HE ALWAYS QUOTED AND LET THE READERS KNOW WHO SAID IT.

I DONT CARE WHAT SOME PEOPLE IS ACUSING HIM, HE ALWAYS GOING TO BE MY LIFE MENTOR,I AM WHO I AM BECAUSE HE HELPED ME AND SHOWED ME THE ROAD.

sometimes people cant not accept how come some body can have so much susccess and they can not take it so the ruin a life whitout care about the collateral damage , so they become famous no taking care about how are the crawling to the top,very sad for silvina friera and the rest...

FOR A LEAST 9 YEARS AND ALL THIS TIME I HAS BEEN PREACHING ABOUT WHAT HE TAUGHT ME AND I ALWAYS EXPLAINED WHO HE IS AND WHERE THAT PREACHING CAME FROM.
THAT PREACHING IT DOESNT CAME FROM ME ,IT COMES FROM HIM.
AND IT WILL BE RIDICULOUS THAT SOMEBODY CLAIM THAT I AM COPING HIM OR IMPERSONATE HIM
